Vanilla Extract Market Rules (Map 3)

The Process
If you did not have a shop last map, you must first have a stall then be approved for a shop plot or booth. See ‘stalls’ section for info. This map, we were slower than a koala on benzos getting official shops started, so if you had an active shop plot for at least a week at the community run market contact staff first and we’ll approve you for a shop plot after verifying.
Stalls
- Used as a 'trial period' for an actual Shop
- Claim your stall by replacing the "Available" sign with your name and the date (DD/MM/YY) that you claimed the stall.
- After one week of maintaining your stall, you will be approved for a Shop plot or Mall slot, your choice.
- After approval, you will have two weeks to vacate the stall so the next member can claim it, after which anything left in the stall will be removed and sent to your base.
- No alterations are allowed in stalls aside from signs and item frames.
Shops
There are two types of permanent shops: custom builds in shop plots and booths. If you had an active shop at the end of the previous map, you can move directly into a shop plot or booth. All others must first use a stall.
Shop Plots
- Shop plots vary in size; find the one that best suits your needs. Nothing is allowed to overhang the plot borders, unless both shop owners agree (keep proof). Combining plots isn't allowed on this map. Treat it like an AirBnb
- A player can only own one shop plot or booth. For group shops, only one member can be the actual plot owner. Groups can own multiple (unconnected) shops, as long as a unique "owner" is assigned to each.
- You may build as deep as you want or as tall as you want inside the horizontal bounds of the shop plot.
Booths
Booths are in a building near the market stalls and are a bit larger with more storage. These are ideal for people that don’t want the hassle of building a shop and want to be in proximity to stalls, which people tend to search first.
- Keep modifications to signs, item frames, and little things like decorations that do not remove any part of the booth. Treat it like an apartment and want your security deposit back when you move out. If you want to express yourself more, move to a shop plot.
General Rules
- Personal beacon beams are not allowed. Staff will strategically place effect beacons around the Shopping District. If you are using a beacon to dig or something in an unbeactonated area, you must cover the beacon with a full block to block the beam before you log out. If you see an unattended bootleg beacon, you may cover it.
- Shop plots cannot be moved unless you win a plot raffle (very rare, and only once per player). Make sure you like the plot before entering.
- You must mark your shop on the bluemap with a shop marker. Make a sign with the first line of [shop] and the second line the text you want. It should have your name as markers are searchable.
- Do not store items in entities with storage like llamas with chests or chest minecarts. Logging for these chest interactions is complicated and very time consuming to investigate.
- This map the shop island is mostly a mooshroom island, meaning mobs will not spawn with the exception of phantoms because Mojang hates you and your family. Not all areas, especially near water, are in the mooshroom biome. It’s a good idea to check the F3 menu to be sure your shop is entirely inside the biome. If it’s not, you must make sure your shop is lit. Do not spam torches on other people’s unlit shops that are contained within this biome. You may light areas for people in areas that are not in the biome. Though not required, minihud has a 3D biome overlay that is very useful to diagnose this if you find spawns are happening somewhere and you want to track it down like the helpful citizen you are.
- You can advertise and find items sold in the #marketplace channel. There’s also a directory near the portal. You can rename a sign and put i n named blocks or books with info about your shop if you choose.
- Report any suspected theft or improperly applied griefing rollbacks in a discord ticket. In addition to block logging, we have regional file differential backups to fallback on. Players without a new tag can use /inspect to be able to punch and right click on blocks to see changes. /inspect-sign has a log entry of sign changes that show the text on mouseover. Please report to us before any accusations or broomsticks. In the cases that you believe to be innocent payment mistakes, you may privately try to resolve it peacefully first. Staff can still resolve this in case of an inactive player or something.
Lag Rules
Some people have stronger computers than others. The goal is to not give major FPS issues on low end PCs without mods. A lot of things mentioned here are fixed by popular mods like Entity Culling or Enhanced Block Entities and you may not notice them. The strongest PCs can suffer in a shops district without specific mods with things mentioned. Even if you personally didn’t notice, we have had people complain about shop district FPS since time immemorial, including before this server. Please understand that these rules are things that we know will help FPS majorly, and it’s about the shopping district not the FPS impact of one shop.
- Shops are now “barrels only”. Please only use chests when you absolutely need a double wide or for redstone reasons. Visual design is not an acceptable reason. Use barrels in all other places. Chests, not hoppers or any other storage block, cause major FPS issues without a specific mod to fix it. This has always been the case and gotten much worse in recent versions. Bug MC-5417
- Use glow signs when you want to catch people's attention, not for every chest. Limit two per shop without specific approval. If you violate this rule we will de-glow all of your signs. Glow signs lag bug MC-226966
- Particles and animated blocks cause a lot of FPS issues for people. Do not excessively use campfires or things like lit fires. A fireplace or chimney is fine, a ton of them for a fog effect or something is not.
- Redstone is allowed as long as it is idle when not used. That means nothing flashes or moves when you're not using it. Don't go too big. Permanently powered Redstone is allowed. For example, powering a piston for decoration, using permanently powered Redstone lamps, or pressure plates for automatic opening and closing doors is allowed. You do not have to consider things like these as part of your redstone footprint.
- Mobs are allowed in your shop but be reasonable and consider how many mobs are being loaded in total in the shops at once. We don’t want a situation where a single player being present at shops is causing several bases worth of lag to the server.
Inactive Plots
A ton of inactive shops sucks.
After two weeks of no activity, your shop may be deemed inactive. If your shop continues to have a decent amount of items in stock and/or you seem to be an active player, you will probably be fine. If we think it’s inactive, you will be contacted via Discord and given the option to log in and stock some things or have staff teleport your shop to your base. If you choose to move your shop, you can have us move it back when you are active (you may not get the same plot) or you can tear it down at your base whenever you want or keep it there. You will have one week minimum to respond to Discord inquiries before we take the action of moving your shop to your base. We will make exceptions for a lot of things, so just tell us if life is getting in the way.
Questions
If you have any non urgent or non theft related questions regarding the Market District, contact someone on staff who may or may not have the answer as we barely know what we’re doing. If you are looking for some kind of special approval, exception or similar, a ticket is best. Tickets ping everyone in staff, and if a decision is reached we will have a log that everyone on staff can refer to.
